milf: mothers, i love festivities!
oh no no, i’m STILL not done yet with mother’s day.
in fact, i think i would like to declare it mother’s week. i mean, if you’re a mother, wouldn’t you feel it’s your right to extend the special treatment for a few more measly days in a year too? heck, i do!
nevermind the hype (no, the daddies will never get it, they rarely do), or Hallmark making a killing (hey, poets need a place to start too), or every corner of the country being invaded by families crammed in fully booked restaurants (well, did anyone think of cooking for the mummy instead? no? moving on…) – i think a little piece of recognition and appreciation for, and from, our loved ones are worthy cause for celebration.
what a small price it is to pay for one day to specifically commemorate the amazing beings that they are, in return for their unconditional love and unending sacrifices! the women who gave birth to you, the women who gave birth to your little ones… a little nudge to remind us to spend precious time with the mothers in our lives among our otherwise hectic days is always a good thing.
and let’s face it, we women LOVE to celebrate every special occassion that we can think of or get thrown at us. birthdays, anniversaries, bridal showers, baby showers – nevermind whose! – anything that gives us an excuse to put on something pretty and have a bit of cake. it makes us happy.
so, don’t let them cynics and naysayers tell you mother’s day isn’t worth celebrating together with the rest of their ’sorority sisters’ who’ve gone through the same collective experiences as them – pregnancy, labour, maternal instinct, the heartaches, the joys. WE will decide if we want mother’s day (or week), thank you very much.
and if you ain’t a woman, don’t ever try to take mother’s day away from us.
we deserve it, dammit.
(unless of course your mother is a cow. *refer to previous post.)
